Sarah’s father took her down her first slope when she was five years old. Since then, skiing has become a feeling of thrill she cannot hold back. Skiing is life. Even when a tumor on her spine robbed Sarah’s legs of feeling, and a radical surgery left her paralyzed from the waist down, Sarah longed for one thing: to ski again.
She wished for a mono-ski of her own and lessons to experience the thrill of racing down the slopes again. With her mono-ski, Sarah knew she could relive those joyous memories with her father.
Make-A-Wish® made Sarah's wish to ski again come true when they sent her and her family to Breckenridge, Colorado with a custom-made mono-ski to practice with some of the country's best adaptive ski instructors. Sarah and her father climbed up together and flew across the soft banks of freshly fallen snow. She was content again.
Back home in Wisconsin, Sarah continued a happy life through the snow – training with her mono-ski every chance she got. Her progress would take her a leap further.
Sarah lives and trains full-time in Colorado as an athlete and a college student.
"I never thought I'd be able to ski ever again," Sarah remembers. "Make-A-Wish did the impossible."
