Joshua loves food and cooking. While battling leukemia, he spent a lot of time in the hospital watching food shows and researching restaurants. He learned that he prefers street food to fine dining, and that the celebrity chefs he admires most all have restaurants in one of the sunniest food meccas in the nation: Los Angeles.
When Joshua’s medical team referred him for a wish, the outcome was clear: Joshua wished to go on an LA food tour. Make-A-Wish®, a community of chefs and the LA Food and Wine Festival team all came together to make Joshua’s one true wish a reality.
"Joshua’s wish came on the heels of his bone marrow transplant," said his mom, Rashelle. "It was the excitement of a lifetime for him, coming out of that and getting to fly to LA. It was so positively overwhelming it almost overshadowed what he had gone through.”
Joshua experienced food trucks and some of LA's best restaurants. Every chef he met gave him something to make him feel like a true foodie, including a personalized chef coat and apron. He even got to walk the red carpet and plate food at a food festival. "I felt like I wanted to stay there forever," Joshua said.
"The way the culinary community opened up to us … they say food is love, and it really was so much love," Rashelle said.
